Fremont art teacher exhibits her work in local shows

Submitted by Fremont School District 79

Fremont Middle School's very own art teacher Lindsey Miska is now exhibiting her artwork at local shows.

Miska's watercolors will be on display at the Grayslake Art Show, Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20; at the David Adler Music and Arts Center in Libertyville now through Saturday, Jan. 27; and at the Fourth Quarterly Artist Exhibition Series in Lake Forest now through Monday, April 9.

"In 2017, I decided to put myself out there as an artist," Miska said. "I have always wanted to, but I didn't have the nerve to do it. Art making is a personal experience and the idea of judgment is scary. But I knew that if I wanted my art seen by the world it was a leap I had to make."

"Sharing my work publicly has been an incredibly rewarding experience," she added.

Miska's favorite art medium is watercolors. The visual spontaneousness and transparency of the watercolor medium plays an important role to the aesthetics of each painting. With watercolor, there is a level of risk and unpredictability that makes working with this medium exciting, she said. Miska designs her watercolors to contain personal stories and fantasies. Many of her paintings use organic forms, human/animal related imagery and objects of beauty to convey those expressions. Through vivid colors, blends, and textures she captures a sense of intimacy, movement, and playfulness within each subject matter.

Miska is a sixth through eighth art teacher at Fremont Middle School in Mundelein. She is in her 14th year teaching in Fremont School District 79. More artwork can be found on her website at www.lindseyleemiska.com.
