Chamber Music on the Fox presents 'Trombone and Voice: A Viennese Tradition'

Throughout the month of February, Chamber Music on the Fox will present a series of events that showcase a beautiful but unlikely pair: the human voice and the trombone.

Culminating in a performance of Anton Bruckner's powerful "trombone mass" with Elgin Master Chorale's Chamber Singers, the organization also will present two free programs in partnership with Gail Borden Public Library that delve even further into the music.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, Elgin Symphony Orchestra trombonists Mark Fry and Adam Moen and Lyric Opera Orchestra of Chicago trombonist Jeremy Moeller will present a free lecture-recital entitled "Trombone and Voice, A Viennese Tradition" at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.

Performing selections by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, and Bruckner, they'll discuss some of the great classics of the orchestral and choral repertoire from a trombonist's perspective.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, the Elgin library will host a second free Chamber Music on the Fox event - a screening of Hans Conrad Fischer's film, "The Life of Anton Bruckner." The 1974 film takes a close look into the life and the musical compositions of the extraordinary Romantic composer, and features performances by the Linz Bruckner Orchestra, Eugen Jochum, and others.

On Monday, Feb. 26, Chamber Music on the Fox presents the Elgin Symphony Orchestra trombone section, Lyric Opera Orchestra trombonist Jeremy Moeller, Chicago organist David Schrader, and the Elgin Master Chorale's Chamber Singers, led by Andrew Lewis, in a program that includes the complete works for trombone ensemble and chamber choir by Anton Bruckner. "Majestic Bruckner" will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Elgin, 216 E. Highland Ave. in Elgin. Tickets are $20 or $10 for students.
