Edgar Allan Poe school celebrates 50th anniversary

Edgar Allan Poe Elementary School, 2800 N. Highland Ave., Arlington Heights, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The school opened in 1968.

Alumni, students and families, as well as former and current staff are invited to take part in marking the year with a permanent tile wall to be installed at the school.

Individual tile designs can be created on paper and will be turned into ceramic tiles that will be put together as a group into a large display for 50 more years of students to see.

Tiles can be created by former Poe families, students, staff, as well as current staff and students. Tiles can be created in honor of someone connected with Poe, whether a favorite teacher or Poe memory. Tiles can be created for $10.

Packets with the information necessary for tile creation are available in the school office. Tile designs are due by Feb. 5 to the Poe Elementary School office. For information, email pto.poe@gmail.com.

Also, save the date for the 50th anniversary reception celebration from 6:30-8:30 p.m. May 3. More details will be available closer to the event at www.poepto.com.
