ECC appoints David L. Kintz as ECC Chief of Police

Elgin Community College's board of trustees approved the appointment of David L. Kintz as ECC Chief of Police on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017 during a special board meeting. Kintz will begin his position at the college effective Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018.

"Chief Kintz has an outstanding background," said David Sam, Ph.D, JD, LLM. "I have learned that he is an individual with great integrity. Additionally, he is a modern-day law enforcement officer who looks at serving the community as a guidepost to his police activities. At ECC, he will continue to ensure that our campus is a safe place for students, staff and visitors."

Kintz has served the St. Charles Police Department for the past 27 years in positions of increasing responsibility and authority, most recently as deputy chief. He also held the positions of deputy chief - operations and deputy chief - administration. These positions have led to his extensive experience in handling major incidents, special events, budget preparation and personnel issues.

Chief Kintz's experience includes working in partnership with the St. Charles Unit District 303 superintendent to develop and implement safety plans. He has been involved with law enforcement agencies in Kane County to promote resource sharing, and is an active member of the community, working closely with residents, business owners and elected officials.

Kintz holds a bachelor of science degree in liberal arts and sciences, majoring in psychology, from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 243 in Quantico, Virginia, and attended the School of Police Staff and Command, Northwestern University Center for Public Safety in Evanston, Illinois, where he received the Franklin M. Kreml Leadership Award. Kintz is currently pursuing a master in public administration at Columbia Southern University.
