Award-winning artist James R. Wilbat opens his glassblowing studio to the public

Local glass artist James R. Wilbat will be featuring free glassblowing demonstrations Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 16 and 17. Celebrating 26 years at the Mundelein location, the Glassblowing Open Houses will feature continuous glassblowing demonstrations by Wilbat, visiting glassblowers and demonstrators, glass designs not available outside the studio, refreshments and a drawing to win a piece of Wilbat's hand blown glass. All ages are welcome.

The Open Houses take place at Wilbat Glass Studio, 854 Tower Road in the Cairo Industrial Park, Mundelein. Open house hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Wilbat recently exhibited and demonstrated glassblowing at the internationally acclaimed SOFA Chicago. He has won numerous awards for his distinctive glass and is known for his colorful, whimsical designs, which reflect his love of abstract art. Recent awards include:

• Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Best of Glass Award, 2017

• Art by the Falls, Valley Art Center, Chagrin Falls, Ohio, 2017
