Get tickets now for CLC's Salute to Gospel Music Concert

A buy one, get one free ticket offer for the Salute to Gospel Music Concert presented by the College of Lake County Lakeshore Campus will be available through Dec. 18.

The 34th annual event will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at the Genesee Theatre, 203 N. Genesee St. in downtown Waukegan. The featured performers are John P. Kee and the New Life Community Choir from North Carolina.

The early bird ticket offer is for the first 200 ticket buyers at the James Lumber Center Box Office in Grayslake and LancerZone store locations at the Grayslake, Lakeshore and Southlake campuses.

Regular and group tickets will be on sale Dec. 19 to Feb. 23, 2018, by phone or in person at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts Box Office in Grayslake and at the LancerZone stores at the Grayslake, Waukegan and Vernon Hills campuses. Tickets may also be purchased at www.clcillinois.edu/tickets.

In the mid-1980s, the Rev. John P. Kee started a community choir in Charlotte, North Carolina, which achieved rapid success and grew to become the renowned New Life Community Choir.

As a solo artist and with the NLCC, Kee has received a flood of awards and nominations, including 34 GMWA Excellence Awards, 22 Stellar Awards, a Trailblazer Award from former President Bill Clinton, a Soul Train Award, two Billboard Music Awards, nine Waljo Awards, seven Grammy nominations, recognition as a 2005 International Gospel Hall of Fame Inductee and the Gospel Heritage Award.

Over a three-decade career, Kee has written music for Hallmark Inc., Stephanie Mills, Jonny Lang, The Hawkins Family, Daryl Coley, Billy Preston, Dorinda Clark Cole, Joe Walsh, the Rev. James Cleveland, Florida Mass Choir, Mississippi Mass Choir and Vanessa Bell Armstrong. His music has been featured in films, TV ads and even on "Saturday Night Live."

Effie Rolfe, a Chicago-based media personality, speaker and author, will serve as master of ceremonies. The 2018 Harambee Award of Excellence will be presented to the Rev. Eugene Roberson of the First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church in North Chicago.

Special guests include College of Lake County Gospel Choir, directed by Matthew Hunter; Walt Whitman's Soul Children of Chicago; and the First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church choir.

Ticket are $28 for general admission, $26 for seniors 65 and older, children, and CLC students and staff; tickets will be $33 at the door. Group rates are $23 for groups of 20-29 and $19 for groups of more than 30.
