EYSO's chamber groups to perform Nov. 19

On Sunday, Nov. 19, enjoy free concerts showcasing all of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra's 2017-18 Chamber Music Institute Groups in Elgin Community College's Blizzard Theatre, 1700 Spartan Drive.

The Chamber Music Institute is one of the largest programs of its kind, with a high percentage of EYSO members participating. Each player enjoys the spotlight as a soloist while in the supportive environment of a small, collaborative team.

At the 12:45 p.m. concert, performers include the CAJÉ Quartet, Sul Tasto Quartet, The Really Fast Quartet, Mele Mele Trio, Quince Quintet, Gershwin Quartet and Earl Clemens Wind Quintet.

At 2:15 p.m., it will be the Amadeus Quartet, Turquoise Quartet, Perfect Fifth, The Fauré-out Piano Quartet, Spartan Sextet and Sterling Brass Quintet.

At 3:45 p.m., featured performers will be VC-VAHM, F5 Winds, La Forza del Clarinetto, Zelená Quintet, Hanson String Quartet, and Swivel Brass.

The concerts will conclude at 5:15 p.m. with the Orfeus String Quartet, The Grandpause, Ampersand Quartet, Quintessence, Vento Quintet, and the Maud Powell String Quartet.

In addition to being in a large ensemble, each EYSO student (in the Prelude level and higher) has the opportunity to participate in a chamber music ensemble. This essential part of a young musician's development helps to teach skills that improve both solo and large ensemble playing. Each player is both a soloist and team member at the same time. Playing chamber music sharpens vital listening skills and provides invaluable musicianship training.

Typically, about one third of EYSO members are enrolled in the Chamber Music Institute. Each ensemble meets for one hour (Youth Symphony ensembles may meet for 75 to 90 minutes) every Sunday and has a regular coach. Our coaches are some of the most skilled educators and performers in the Chicago area and have a great passion for teaching. The semester ends with a series of concerts. In addition to two main concerts per season (one in the fall and another in the spring), CMI ensembles are invited to perform at community concerts throughout the area.

In addition, CMI's Honors Ensembles offer an unparalleled opportunity for advanced musicians (high school and college age) to play chamber music at the highest level and work with some of the finest artist-educators and chamber music coaches in the nation. As premier ensembles and ambassadors of the EYSO, the Maud Powell String Quartet, Hanson String Quartet, Sterling Brass Quintet, and Earl Clemens Wind Quintet maintain active and high-profile performing schedules.
