Glenbard South to present 'Oliver!'

Glenbard South High School will present the classic musical "Oliver!" based on Charles Dickens' novel "Oliver Twist."

The Tony Award-winning musical has charmed audiences through the years. Orphaned Oliver is forced into an unhealthy apprenticeship of an undertaker that does not last long.

As a runaway, Oliver joins a group of thieves and pickpockets who welcome him into their ranks. When Oliver is captured by the police for a crime he did not commit, the generous victim, Mr. Brownlow, decides to raise Oliver as his own.

However, to cover their tracks and ensure their safety, Fagin, Bill Sikes and Nancy plan to kidnap Oliver. In the end, the characters are forced to face their consciences to determine rights and wrongs.

Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, Nov. 16 to 18, at Glenbard South, 23W200 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn.

Tickets, $10, may be reserved at glenbardsouthhs.org or by calling Lisa Cooper at (630) 469-6500. Tickets are also available at Glenbard South before school and during lunch periods, as well as at the door before performances.
