Children's Theatre of Elgin to present 'Elf Jr. the Musical'

Now celebrating its 30th season, Children's Theatre of Elgin will present a large-scale production of "Elf Jr. the Musical" this weekend at the Hemmens Cultural Center in Elgin.

"Elf Jr. the Musical" is a shortened version of the Broadway show, which was inspired by the popular movie "Elf," based on a children's book.

Audience members of all ages will delight as the cast of 97 talented young performers ages 7 to 14 years brings this hilarious fish-out-of-water tale to life.

The main character, Buddy, was raised by elves at the North Pole, but his skills don't always match the work to be done. Upon discovering he is actually a human, he sets out on an adventure to New York City in search of his long-lost father.

Even though Buddy has trouble fitting in there as well, his upbeat attitude wins out in this holiday classic that is sure to bring out everyone's "inner elf" since the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.

"Working with this talented and kindhearted cast made me excited to come to practice every single evening," said show director Allison Cherry. "Day in and day out, these kids have worked hard to get every dance step, hit every note, remember every line - and prepare to do in front of hundreds of people. It is no small feat, and I have been proud to take this journey with them."

"Elf Jr. The Musical" performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at the Hemmens, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. For tickets and information, visit CTEelgin.com or call (847) 214-7550.
