Schaumburg Library Patrons Can Pay Fines with Food in December

Schaumburg Library patrons who owe fines can pay them with donations of non-perishable foods from Friday, Nov. 24 through Sunday, Dec. 31 at all three locations in Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park. The popular "Food for Fines" program allows Schaumburg cardholders to remove $1 in library fines for each item donated, with a limit of 10 items per visit. It is important to note that expired food will not be accepted, and food donations will not be accepted for lost or damaged items or collection agency fines. Food collected will be donated to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry.

"By participating in Food for Fines, you reduce your fines and help out someone else who uses the food pantry," said Kathy Morgan, director of circulation services for the library. "It's a great way to get a great result."

Good items to donate include canned meats, pasta and soup, as well as crackers, tomato products, baking items and hygiene products.
