Terra Vista: Expanding the Definition of Family

Terra Vista of Oakbrook Terrace, located at 1635 S. Ardmore Avenue in Oakbrook Terrace, hosted two events on Tuesday, Sept. 12, in honor of National Assisted Living Week.

Terra Vista offered an enlightening and informative complimentary education session with the goal of guiding families and professionals on their journey to becoming a family caregiver.

Led by Natalie McFarland, Terra Vista's executive director and a noted Alzheimer's expert and certified dementia care trainer, her presentation gave attendees the tools and insight to help them overcome dementia care's challenges while maintaining meaningful family connections and discovering more effective ways to be a family caregiver.

Terra Vista hosted an open house to introduce area seniors and their families to the Terra Vista family.

During the open house, guests could join the team for a tour, learn about Terra Vista's vibrant programming and family resources and meet the thriving residents who are proud to have entered into such a loving and welcoming family.

National Assisted Living Week, which ran Sept. 10-16, observed the theme of "Family Is Forever," which was inspired by the famous Maya Angelou quote, "Family isn't always blood, it's the people in your life who want you in theirs: the ones who accept you for who you are, the ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what."

Terra Vista strongly believes that family support and education are their social responsibility. Terra Vista offers a multitude of free education and information sessions to elevate the skills and abilities of caregivers. Further, Terra Vista features respite programs and also offers eligible families samples of programs from its comprehensive proprietary activity schedule, including Brain Athletics, Masterpiece Art Therapy, Harmony Music, Green Thumb Horticulture and so much more.

With compassionate memory care experts, family support and education and specialized programming tailored to the interests of residents, Terra Vista is not just creating a family within their community, but outside of it as well.
