York Drama to present Fall Festival

York Drama's Fall Festival will feature productions of "The Children's Hour" and "Next to Normal."

"The Children's Hour" is a drama exploring the power of the spoken word. When a young girl starts a rumor about her teachers, lies compound, lives unravel and truths are revealed. In today's world of social media and political volatility, Lillian Hellman's work is more relevant than the day it was written.

"Next to Normal" is contemporary musical theater exploring how one suburban household copes with crisis and mental illness.

Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Score and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, "Next to Normal" also was chosen as "one of the year's 10 best shows" by critics around the country, including the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone and The New York Times.

Performances will be the last weekend of October. "The Children's Hour" begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28; "Next to Normal" begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at York High School, 355 St. Charles Road, Elmhurst.

Tickets are $10 each, plus a small processing fee, and can be purchased at ticketpeak.com/yorkdrama. The performances are not recommended for children younger than 13.

York student tickets are free to "The Children's Hour" and will be available at the door with a student ID.
