Glenbard Parent Series: Strategies for reducing teen defiance and anxiety

The teen years can be challenging for parents dealing with young people who are defiant or anxious. To give parents strategies for helping their children to have more positive behavior, the Glenbard Parent Series will present "Dousing the Flame: Extinguishing Challenging Behaviors and Anxiety" at noon Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Carol Stream Elementary District 93 Administrative Center, 230 Covington Drive, Bloomingdale.

The teen years are an ideal time for behavioral interventions that teach young people who are defiant or anxious new patterns of response. Speaker M. Jean Wright, director of clinical training and anxiety services at Linden Oaks Behavioral Health, will help parents recognize whether they are reinforcing or extinguishing unwanted behaviors in their children. This presentation will provide parents with strategies to alter negative thinking and behavior and reinforce calmer, healthier responses in their children.
