Local author Wendy Brant to speak to WIM Fox Valley

WIM Fox Valley presents Wendy Brant, author of "Zenn Diagram," on Thursday, Oct. 12.

The new meeting location for luncheons is Grumpy Goat Tavern at 875 Sports Way in Elgin. Networking will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by the luncheon and program at noon. Meetings adjourn at 1 p.m.

Cost for members is $22 or $25 for nonmembers. Area women in business are welcome to attend this month's presentation. Reservations must be made for attendance online at www.wimfoxvalley.org.

At age 10, Brant got her first taste of writing success when she won her school's Young Authors contest. She went on to study journalism at Northwestern University, completed the Publishing Institute program at the University of Denver, and continued to write adult fiction (albeit unpublished) for 25 years while working and being a mom.

When she started reading the same books as her kids, her attention and passion shifted to Young Adult fiction. Now Brant writes about isolated teenagers who somehow find a way to connect with others, and she's notes she is "also a sucker for a little romance."

Brant lives in West Dundee, the best neighborhood in America (as crowned by Good Morning America in 2010) with her husband, two kids, and a couple of guinea pigs.

"Our WIM members are successful entrepreneurs, managers, and dedicated community volunteers," said Michelle Groeper, this year's 2017-18 WIM Fox Valley president. "We look forward to hearing about Wendy, the author, and the inspiration for her books."

Groeper, an Elgin resident, is executive director at Tails Humane Society in DeKalb. She adds, "We look forward to an exciting year of speakers and topics that will enrich our members and their businesses. We warmly welcome guests to attend our meetings and find out more about WIM Fox Valley. The Nov. 9 meeting is our annual complimentary bring a guest day."
