A Season of Centennials: Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society Announces Fall Program Line Up

This fall's History Matters series of local history programs arranged by the Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society will feature three stories of Libertyville centennials, anniversaries of events of 1917.

Kicking off the series will be Dale Eggert, Libertyville High School alum, retired teacher and current head wrestling coach, who will present a pictorial history of Libertyville High School through the decades in celebration of the Libertyville High School Centennial. Monday, September 18, 7pm, Cook Park Library.

This year also marks the 100th anniversary of the St. Lawrence Church building. At the October History Matters program, St. Lawrence parishioners will recount the history of the congregation back to the first meeting in 1908, the fire that destroyed the old Union Church building and reconstruction in 1917, and the evolution of the congregation up to the present day through slides showing historic photos. Monday, October 16, 7pm, Cook Park Library.

Rounding out the Season of Centennials will be a look at Libertyville During World War I. What was happening here while our boys were over there? Libertyville High School senior Anna Burns will discuss local reaction to the war and how citizens participated in the war effort beginning with the U.S. entry to the war in the spring of 1917.

All History Matters programs are held at the Cook Park Library in Libertyville. Please register in advance for each program in person at Cook Park or Aspen Drive Library, by phone at 847-362-2330, or online at webres.cooklib.org.

Founded in 1955, the Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society exists to "discover, study, discuss, collect, and preserve information and materials relative to the history of the community."
