National parenting expert 'Dr. G' to visit suburban Chicago

On Thursday, September 14, parenting expert and author Dr. Deborah Gilboa will present two talks in north suburban Lincolnshire. Known as "Dr G" from her appearances on NBC's "Today" show, Gilboa will conduct a morning workshop, "Get the Behavior You Want...Without Being the Parent You Hate," from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. in the Vernon Area Public Library Annex, 4 Indian Creek Drive in Lincolnshire. At 7 p.m., Gilboa will speak on "Raising Responsible, Resilient and Successful Teens" in West Auditorium at Stevenson High School, 1 Stevenson Drive in Lincolnshire. Both events are free and open to the public; registration is required.

Gilboa's passion for raising kids with character makes her a popular media personality, known for backing up her expertise with practical experience. She is a parent of four, a practicing physician and a teacher at University of Pittsburgh's School of Medicine. And Gilboa has experience that can only be regarded as a rarity in the medical community: she works with Chicago's Second City to present "showshops," 90-minute sessions that are part sketch comedy and part actionable tips for meeting the challenges of parenting. As a speaker, Gilboa's lively storytelling helps her relate to busy audiences as she offers practical strategies for promoting the development of life skills in children, from two to 22.

When the "Today" show introduced Gilboa as one of their tastemakers in 2016, they said "When we have questions about...childhood development, we turn to Dr. Gilboa, aka Dr. G. She's always got the best advice and she's never afraid to give it to us straight. We love her compassionate but no-nonsense bedside manner."

In the September 14 morning session, "Get the Behavior You Want…Without Being the Parent You Hate," Gilboa will talk about how parents can use everyday opportunities to foster positive behaviors in their children without nagging or yelling. In the evening program, "Raising Responsible, Resilient and Successful Teens," she will explain easy-to-use tools for parents to support their adolescents as they launch to adulthood.

Books by Gilboa will be for sale at both events. The visits are co-hosted by the Community Parent Network and Vernon Area Public Library. For more information and to register, please visit http://communityparentnetwork.org/events/
