Sporting Clays Tournament and Shoot to benefit Camp Power

The city of DeKalb Police Department and the Aurora Sportsmen's Club will be hosting a Sporting Clays Tournament and Shoot to raise funds for Camp Power.

It will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Aurora Sportsmen's Club, 7858 Preserve Road in Waterman.

The camp was developed in 2014 as a free, collaborative summer program offered to children and their families living in University Village housing development. After the program's first year, there was a 26 percent decrease in Part 2 crimes. After the second year, there was a 40 percent reduction in overall crime, a 13 percent reduction in calls for service by police, and a 49 percent reduction in arrests. The most positive outcome has been an enhanced relationship between the children and the police officers. Now entering its fourth year of operations, there is a need to extend Camp Power to other neighborhoods in DeKalb. The goal of this event is to provide funding to support that expansion.

Lunch, ammunition and side events will be available for purchase.

Enjoy a 100-bird course designed for the recreational or beginning shooter. Prizes will be awarded. New shooters should arrive one hour prior to assigned start time for new shooter training.

A more challenging 100-Bird course is designed for the advanced or competitive shooter. Prizes will be awarded based on Lewis Class System.

This fun event offers sporting clays and the opportunity to participate in side event challenges, a picnic lunch, refreshments along the course, and the chance to win raffle and silent auction items. The event caters to those new to the sport as well as veterans, so gather a squad or sign up as an individual and register today to choose your preferred start time. Walk-ins are also welcome.

The cost is $65 each participant/time; there are three squads, 8:30, 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. with 30 participants each. The registrant may sign up more than one person or for more than one squad if they choose.
