Junior Tennis tourney adopts new format

Naperville Park District's Summer Slam All-City Junior Tennis Tournament returns this weekend with a new round robin format.

The tournament will be Saturday, July 15, with a rain date of Sunday, July 16. Matches will take place between 8:30 a.m. and noon at the Knoch Park tennis courts, 724 S. West St., Naperville.

This year, the tournament will be played in a round robin format in two coed, age-based divisions: 7 to 10 years and 11 to 15 years.

"The new round robin format will allow kids to play several matches against other players their age rather than being eliminated after one loss," Program Manager Gary Foiles said. "This provides more opportunity for the participants to play the great game of tennis."

The only skill requirements for participation are that the player knows how to keep score and can serve (or drop-feed) from the baseline.

Participants in the park district's Junior Tennis program play at no charge and will receive registration information by email.

Others may register by noon Thursday, July 13, for $6 for residents and $10 for nonresidents. For information, visit napervilleparks.org.
