Palatine Library Director Resigns After Nine Years of Service

Palatine Public Library District Board of Library Trustees announces that Library Director Anthony Auston has given notice that he will be leaving for the position of Executive Deputy Director at the Mount Prospect Public Library on June 16, 2017.

Auston has served Palatine Library for nine years as both Assistant Director and Library Director. During his tenure he promoted a friendly, community-oriented vision for the Library, developed the Library's technology and strategic plans, facilitated two building renovations, and aligned operations for efficiency, value, and quality. Auston has been a strong advocate for Palatine Library's outreach and education to the public and local organizations, supporting the Library's goal to meet the growing needs of the community.

"As Director for the past three years, Anthony has worked with the Board of Trustees to strengthen our Library's connections with the community. His enthusiasm and commitment to the Library's mission have inspired us and enriched the experiences of patrons and staff alike. The Board thanks him for his service over the years," states Board President Karen Reshkin.

Reflecting on his career with Palatine Library, Auston said: "I am grateful for the opportunity to have served such an extraordinary Library and community. The hardest part of this decision was knowing that I wouldn't see our amazingly supportive staff, patrons, and partners each day. That said, the Library has a solid foundation and clear path forward. I'm eager to see the fulfillment of this next phase of development for Palatine Public Library District."

The Board of Library Trustees began the search for a new Director in April following Auston's announcement. "The Board is conducting a comprehensive search for a Director who will carry on the excellence of our great Library," said Search Committee Chair Bruce Jefferson. The Board expects to appoint an Interim Director prior to Auston's departure. Further information will be posted on the Library's website: www.palatinelibrary.org.

Palatine Public Library District serves approximately 90,000 residents predominantly within the communities of Palatine and Hoffman Estates.
