Boys golf: Conant, Buffalo Grove having good starts to season

The Conant boys golf team has finished fourth or higher in its three invites thus far (303 and 305 in two of them), Nicolas Simon shot a 73 in one, while Aashir Patel has the lowest 9-hole tally thus far with a 1-under 35. Armen Galovich went 75-75 in his first two 18s (medalist in one of them). Simon medaled in two of the three (73-77), while freshman Antonio Gutierrez has elevated to varsity No. 4 (79-78 in 18s and 1-over 37 in his MSL debut).

Buffalo Grove update:

The Bison won the Hersey invite at Old Orchard with a very strong 296 (16-over), which was the program's lowest team score in 20 years. Dori Lee won it with a 2-under 68, while Ryan Beerheide shot even-par 70 and took second. Sophomore Connor Woodin shot a strong 78 with 3 birdies to take 11th on a tough Inverness track.

Schaumburg update:

Vassilios Davis was third and Matt Holbek ninth at the Huntley invitational, while Holbek was 12th at the Hersey invite.

Rolling Meadows update:

Tyler Wengronowitz (fifth) and Nico Haber (eighth) helped the Mustangs finish second at the Leyden invitational. Wengronowitz also shot a 39 in a dual at Poplar Creek recently.

Prospect update:

The Knights won the Elk Grove varsity/JV scramble and then picked up a key 155-157 MSL win over Buffalo Grove at Mount Prospect Golf Club. Will Salzmann shot 36 against BG. Coach James Hamann was effusive in his praise of sophomore Patrick Raupp's ball striking at the Fremd invite at Inverness. He was third there with a 75.

Maine West update:

Underclassmen have helped the Warriors to a 3-1 start with juniors Charlie Parcell and Anthony Nabor, sophomore George Murphy and freshmen Logan Amar and Tommy Kulesaz leading the way.

Elk Grove update:

The Grens shot a 161 to down Schaumburg at home recently. Nick Lamberg and Peter Pantanzis lead the team in scoring average with 41.4s.

Palatine update:

The Pirates have gone third at Elk Grove, third at Larkin and fourth at Huntley. No. 1 Pablo Castro shot 76 at Huntley (9th), 77 at Inverness (10th) and was Top 10 at Elk Grove's two-man scramble.

St. Viator update:

The Lions shot 315 and took fifth at the Bloomington Red Bird invitational. Grayson Hill shot 75 and took fifth at the Biltmore invite after starting with 2 doubles.

Maine East update:

The Demons downed Leyden in a recent match, while freshman Jiro Yamat has been low score in all Maine East contests thus far.
