Sox's Mercedes 'still fighting it' at plate

The American League Rookie of the Month in April after hitting .415 with 5 home runs and 16 RBI, Yermin Mercedes is still mired in a lengthy slump.

The White Sox's designated hitter entered Thursday night's game at Houston batting .107 (6-for-56) since May 29.

"He's still fighting it," manager Tony La Russa said. "He still has that beautiful smile, but he's not the same. It's bothering him. Yermin needs to stay square, hit the ball wherever it goes and the power will be there. But we need consistent hard contact."
