Bears WR Robinson says he'll be at training camp, gives no contract update

Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson doesn't plan on holding out for a new contract.

Robinson, 27, is currently under a one-year franchise tag tender. The 2020 season was the final year of Robinson's three-year contract with the Bears that he signed prior to the 2018 season. The Bears placed him on the franchise tag in March and Robinson has signed his one-year franchise tag deal.

The team and Robinson now have until July 15 to agree to a long-term extension. If they cannot come to an agreement by then, they cannot negotiate again until after the 2021 season.

On Wednesday at veteran minicamp, Robinson said he plans to arrive at training camp on time. Although that is good news for the Bears, Robinson said there hasn't been much progress on a contract extension.

"I don't have any updates or anything like that," Robinson said.

The contract drama with Robinson began last offseason and extended into the 2020 season. A week into the regular season, Robinson deleted much of the Bears content from his Instagram account. After the season, Robinson was vocal about his dislike of the franchise tag.

While Robinson likely isn't thrilled with the current situation, showing up for minicamp and training camp is a positive sign for the Bears.

"The one sneaky thing about A-Rob that I think is pretty cool is, No. 1, even if he's not here, you know he's working his tail off," head coach Matt Nagy said Tuesday. "And No. 2, he's always in great shape, and we noticed that today."
