Burdi joins White Sox from Schaumburg

Dylan Cease was placed on the injured list Wednesday, opening up a roster spot.

Zack Burdi was recalled from Schaumburg to fill it.

The Downers Grove native joined the White Sox's bullpen last August and looked good through his first four appearances, allowing 1 run in 4 innings.

After that, Burdi was shelled for 8 earned runs over his final 3⅓ innings.

In spring training, Burdi allowed 5 runs on 5 hits and 6 walks in 4 innings, but he still made a favorable impression.

"Big-league arm," manager Tony La Russa said. "You're a hitter, when you see him let go of the ball, it gets your attention. He's got plus stuff. Like a lot of young guys, it's control of his delivery and his emotions. All those things, once you do that, you end up controlling the baseball, which is command. But stuff is there."
