White Sox thrilled to be back in front of home fans

A rain delay pushed first pitch back over two hours Thursday, but the reduced crowd at Guaranteed Rate Field was expectedly vocal when the White Sox were introduced.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot were not. The duo heard the boos when they walked to the mound for the ceremonial first pitch.

Legendary groundskeeper Roger Bossard received some of the loudest applause as he begins his 55th season with the Sox. Before the game, he was presented with a gold-plated rake.

"It's sort of crazy," Bossard said. "It doesn't feel like 55 years. I've been blessed. Obviously, God has been so good to me and it's got to be a gene thing. There are six of us in my family that have been major-league groundskeepers. Out of the six, there's only one who hasn't been in it for over 40 years."
