Libertyville celebrates its seniors by beating Lake Forest

Sophomore Emily Fisher has turned heads more than once on a basketball court over the last couple of years. She can do many things beyond scoring, passing, rebounding and play defense.

Now, you can add dribbling a basketball on her knees to her resume, which she accomplished a couple of times in the second half on Friday night.

Fisher also scored a game-high 19 points and had 12 rebounds that led Libertyville past visiting Lake Forest 62-40 in a North Suburban Conference girls game on Senior Night for the Wildcats.

"I've done it mostly for AAU when you get into traps and dribble out of it," Fisher said. "You just keep going than to travel. I think it's all instincts and I don't plan to do that. I guess it's all practice and playing hard with the team all together. One person can't do it all and it's a team effort."

The Wildcats (6-2, 3-0) for the second straight night needed to find energy in the second half. They led 26-22 at the break and scored 11 unanswered points and outscored Lake Forest 17-9 for a 43-31 lead after the end of the third quarter.

"It's about challenging them to play the best against their capabilities," Libertyville coach Greg Pedersen said. "For them to learn on the fly and make adjustments. We really wanted to get the ball into Lauren (Huber) and Emily's hands more in positions to do things and score. Sometimes, we get too complacent and throw it around. I thought it worked out really well. The bench was fantastic and it was the best they've played all year."

Huber added 15 points and 10 rebounds and Kate Rule chipped in 12 points.

Lake Forest (3-3, 2-2) was lead by Molly Fisher, Bella Ronallo and Rachel Kaus all had 8 points each.

The Scouts had a tough time dealing with the Wildcats defense especially in the second half.

"We just came out flat and didn't have a lot of energy (second half)," Lake Forest coach Stacey Leach said. "We had a big week and we have another big week next week, Back-to-back games are a killer and so many minutes of practice. This season is hard. Libertyville was an athletic group, naturally they were tough. We just ran out of gas."
