Reports: Cubs add outfield depth with Marisnick
While adding more starting pitching help remains his top priority as spring training nears, Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer is also looking to add outfield depth.
Jake Marisnick fits that description, and the 29-year-old outfielder has reportedly agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract. According to MLB.com, the deal includes a $4 million option for 2022 with a $500,000 buyout.
Last season, Marisnick hit .333/.353/.606 with the Mets while being limited to 16 games due to hamstring injuries.
A solid defensive outfielder who can handle all three spots, Marisnick has played eight seasons with the Astros, Marlins and Mets.
In 2017, the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder hit 16 home runs for Houston.
Heading into spring training, Jason Heyward is the Cubs' starter in right field, Ian Happ tops the depth chart in center and newcomer Joc Pederson is the starter in left.
