Grayslake North cruises by Grant

As a freshman, Dominic Jankowski learned a great deal to contribute in scoring for Grayslake North. Now, it's his sophomore season and with a year of experience behind him, he knows how to provide scoring production for the Knights.

Jankowski scored 12 of his game-high 19 points in the second half and lifted host Grayslake North past Grant 65-49 in a Northern Lake County Conference boys basketball game in Grayslake on Thursday night.

"It's fun to be back out there again," Jankowski said. "With the coaches and some of the fans, everything still seems the same. Especially, on the fast breaks and getting the good looks on passes scoring points."

Grant (0-2, 0-2) made it a close game in the first half trailing Grayslake North 32-28. But the Knights (2-0, 2-0) outscored the Bulldogs 13-4 in the third quarter and led 45-32 going into the final 8 minutes.

"Grant was hurting us in the post and slowing the game down," Grayslake North coach Todd Grunloh said. "We decided what we can do against a 2-3 zone and it turned the game around. We have some things to work on and got sloppy with the ball. Second half, we had a good response.

"Jankowski had averaged 15 a game as a freshman. He has the ability and made some shots."

Grant is on the young side but worked and stayed with Grayslake North for most of the contest.

Tony Hines added 12 points for the Knights.

"We still have a long way to go and keep improving," Grant coach Wayne Bosworth said.: "We're still not ready for this level and need to keep improving. We keep working, we will get there."

Carter Kaye led the Bulldogs with a team-high 12 points.
