Jimenez might pinch-hit if needed, Renteria says

The White Sox played Game 1 of the playoffs Tuesday without power-hitting left fielder Eloy Jimenez and they did just fine, slugging 3 home runs in a 4-1 win over the Athletics at Oakland Coliseum.

They'll try to do the same thing in Game 2 this afternoon (2 p.m., ESPN).

Jimenez sprained his right foot running the bases in a game at Cleveland last Thursday. He missed the three-game weekend series against the Cubs to close out the regular season and is still trying to get back on the field.

"He's still about the same," Sox manager Rick Renteria said Wednesday. "The usage for him for us is about the same. Maybe a pinch-hit at-bat. They are still treating him up, trying to see if they can continue to calm down the soreness in that foot. But hopefully, it continues to improve a little bit."

Here's the White Sox's lineup for Game 2:

1. Tim Anderson, SS

2. Yoan Moncada, 3B

3. Yasmani Grandal, C

4. Jose Abreu, 1B

5. Edwin Encarnacion, DH

6. Luis Robert, CF

7. Adam Engel, RF

8. Leury Garcia, LF

9. Nick Madrigal, 2B

Starting pitcher: Dallas Keuchel

Garcia gets his second straight start in left field replacing Jimenez.

A versatile veteran, Garcia rejoined the Sox Tuesday after missing six weeks with a left thumb injury that required surgery.

"It was a little hard because I didn't have that much time," said Garcia, who was 0-for-4 with 2 strikeouts in Game 1. "But at the same time, I've been working a lot in Arizona and Schaumburg. It took a lot of work but I feel good so far."

Encarnacion is the White Sox's designated hitter in Game 2 of the best-of-three series. He sat out the postseason opener, and Encarnacion was 18-for-125

(.144) with 8 homers and 16 RBI in his last 35 games.
