Maine West tabs Klupchak as new coach

George Klupchak has been recommended to the Maine Township High School District 207 Board of Education as the next head football coach at Maine West.

Maine West athletic director Jarett Kirshner announced the pending appointment on Wednesday.

Klupchak currently serves as head football coach and athletic director at Walter Payton College Prep in Chicago.

Prior to his five seasons as head coach at Payton Prep, Klupchak was the head coach at Chicago Bulls College Prep where he taught English, History, and Physical Education.

Upon approval by the board Klupchak will be teaching Physical Education at Maine West.

During his five campaigns as head coach at Payton Prep, Klupchak compiled a record of 40-11-1 with a conference championship and an IHSA playoff appearance in each season. He holds the record for most wins in Payton Prep history and was the first coach to lead a Grizzly team to a perfect 9-0 regular season.

In addition to being named a Prep Insight Coach of the Year, Klupchak has served on the IHSA Football Advisory Committee.

The Grizzlies posted a record of 8-1-1 during the 2019 season (the tie was due to the CPS teachers strike).

Klupchak will take over for Jason Kradman, who left Maine West recently to become head coach at Lake Park.

The Maine Township High School District 207 Board of Education meeting is slated for April 6. During that meeting, Klupchak's hire will be considered for approval.
