Girls bowling: Foppe, Lake Zurich rolling to state

Rogue Foppe and her Lake Zurich girls bowling teammates delivered in the clutch.

The Bears rolled 1000 pins in the sixth game to clinch third place in the Dundee-Crown regional at Liberty Lanes on Saturday. The effort earned them a berth in this Saturday's Kaneland sectional at Mardi Gras Lanes in Sycamore.

Lake Zurich's total pins for the day were 5204, with the last four games of 890, 894, 896 and 1000. The Bears were in fifth place at the end of four games.

"I am so proud of how all the girls kept encouraging each other in all of their games," LZ coach Mel Fox said. "This was totally a team effort. The girls are very excited to advance to sectionals."

Foppe, a sophomore, was the individual champion with 1172 pins. She finished with games of 182, 239 and 289 for a 710 series.

"The entire bowling alley was dead silent when she was bowling her 10th frame," Fox said. "She got her first strike, then 9, and picked up the spare for 289."

Lake Zurich's other contributors included Haley Czabaj (956), Amanda Kouros (1013), Lilliana Perez (1057), Emma Moslander (859) and Kirstin Grzonka (147).

Huntley (5257) and Jacobs (5220) placed 1-2 in the team standings.
