York's Shockey earns MVP honor

Nate Shockey of York is this week's Daily Herald boys basketball MVP.

Nate Shockey, York: Shockey helped the Dukes claim sole possession of first place in the WSC Silver with a key victory over Oak Park, then led them to the title at the WW South MLK Tournament. In six wins the North Dakota-bound 6-foot-2 senior guard scored 95 points. On Tuesday he notched his 1,000th varsity point.

Conor Enright, Mundelein: Enright enjoyed quite a night, one of his best in three seasons on varsity. A dozen points shy of 1,000 for his career heading into the Mustangs' game at Libertyville, the junior point guard soared past his milestone. He finished with a career-high 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting (3 of 4 from the arc), 7 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals, as the Mustangs raced to a 74-58 victory.

Kam Craft, Buffalo Grove: The Bison sophomore inched closer to 1,000 career points with three big games last week. After scoring 25 points in a loss to Cary-Grove, he came back with 26 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks in an 80-70 Mid-Suburban East win over Rolling Meadows. He finished the week with a 27-point output in a 68-58 win over Round Lake.

Frank Jakubicek, Cary-Grove: This 6-foot-9 forward opened a 4-game stretch by scoring 19 points in a 9-point win at Buffalo Grove. He closed it with a 20-point, 8-rebound performance in a 66-65 victory over Glenbrook South at the Lake Zurich MLK Tournament, capped by the title-clinching dunk in the final seconds. A senior committed to Belmont, Jakubicek also contributed a team-best 12 points in a 51-45 semifinal win at Lake Zurich and scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in a 30-point win at Jacobs.
