Glavan, York get the bounce at the buzzer
It took three bounces off the back of the rim.
It just felt like 30 bounces to everyone on the court.
Tim Glavan's putback as time expired lifted York to Monday's 40-38 victory over Benet in the Wheaton Warrenville South MLK Tournament championship game.
"It took a long time, but I got the roll," said Glavan, who scored 8 points. "I thought it was going to go in right away and I turned around. But then I looked back and it was still on the rim. Then it dropped in and my team attacked me."

Afte> four games in three days, the title came down to a furious final 20 seconds after the Dukes' Nate Shockey hit three free throws to tie it at 38 apiece.
A missed 3-pointer by Benet was rebounded by Glavan. The ball wound up in North Dakota-bound Shockey's hands, and his miss also went to Glavan as he muscled toward the basket. The 6-foot-4 senior gently lofted the ball through the net ... after, of course, those grueling bounces off the rim.
"I'm so happy for (Glavan), he's such a great kid," said York coach Vince Doran. "We finished second at Thanksgiving and second at (the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic), so it was nice to get this one."
Benet (14-5) looked in good shape after building a 24-16 halftime lead but York (20-2) unleashed a 14-0 third-quarter run that finally ended with a three-point play by the Redwings' Colin Crothers, who had 20 points and 7 rebounds. York - which committed 2 turnovers the entire game - forced 9 third-quarter turnovers as Jeff Grace, who scored 9 points, tied it 24-24 with a steal and bucket.
The Redwings rallied from a 31-27 deficit behind a Jack Prock 3-pointer and six straight free throws by Crothers and Tyler Van Eekeren, who scored 8 points. York scored the game's final 5 points, starting with the clutch free throws by Shockey, who scored 15 points.
"There's certainly a lot to talk about with the last 30 seconds, but where they won the game in my opinion was the third quarter," said Benet coach Gene Heidkamp. "It's a tough loss, but hopefully we learn from it and get better."
<h3 class="leadin">Third-place game:
WW South (13-8) claimed third place at its MLK tournament with a 52-34 victory over Warren (7-11).
The Tigers' smothering ball press defense helped expand a 6-point halftime lead to double digits heading to the fourth quarter. WW South closed the game on a 14-4 run, highlighted by 6-foot-5 sophomore Tyler Fawcett scoring 8 of his 17 points.
"One of the things we pride ourselves on is our toughness and our ability to stay mentally tough no matter how many games we play," Fawcett said. "I think we made some pretty big strides this weekend."
Parker Brown went 6 of 6 from the line while also scoring 17 points for WW South. Adnan Sarancic led Warren with 17 points.
<h3 class="leadin">Semifinals:
After four lead changes and five ties, York took control in the fourth quarter of the first WW South semifinal game to beat the host Tigers 43-37.
The Dukes, paced by Nate Shockey's 17 points, knocked down 15 of 20 free throws in the final period. Bench play was key for York, which received 9 points from Milo Mann and 8 points from Denton Rohde.
"We were able to force turnovers and make offense out of our defense," Mann said. "Possessions were so long and so valuable. We did a good job late in the game."
Yonatan Algawerash nearly rallied WW South to victory by scoring 10 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter. Tyler Fawcett scored 7 of his 10 points in the second half.
Benet beat Warren 54-39 in the second semifinal behind a 17-2 run that turned a 6-5 deficit into a 22-8 lead.
Only once the rest of the game did Warren narrow the gap to single digits.
"We played really solid team defense throughout the game and had some guys step up from the bench," said Benet senior guard Colin Gillespie. "Playing four games in three days, we need some guys to step up."
Jack Prock led the Redwings with 13 points while Tyler Van Eekeren and Colin Crothers, who had 8 rebounds despite foul trouble, added 12 points.
Seamus Mellican scored 9 points for Warren. Alexander Figueroa came off the bench to hit a pair of 3-pointers and score 8 points.
