Antioch wins third game in a row

Gianna Riforgiato scored 11 points, and Antioch's girls basketball team defeated visiting North Chicago 45-25 for its third win in a row Friday night.

All but one player scored for Antioch (4-4, 2-0), which also received 7 points from Molly Volkmar and 11 rebounds from Jada Shaputis. Riforgiato also had 3 steals.

The Sequoits did not have a three-game winning streak all last season.

Vernon Hills 48, Highland Park 34: Daniella Jarrell scored 10 points to lead the host Cougars in their Central Suburban League North Division game.

Lauren Shores added 8 points for Vernon Hills (3-4, 1-1), while Brynn Ziemke and Alexa Cieslinski each had 7.

Wauconda 54, Grayslake North 24: Jessie Pakaski had 13 points and 11 rebounds, Kiley Szmajda posted a game-high 14 points and 4 blocks, and the visiting Bulldogs (4-2) evened their Northern Lake County Conference record at 1-1.

Mackenzie Arden contributed 13 points and 6 steals, Morgan Lung chipped in 8 rebounds and 3 steals, and Kaitlyn Jerard had 6 rebounds off the bench.

"This was our most complete game yet this season," Bulldogs coach Jaime Dennis said. "We shared the ball well and ran the offense better than we have been. All five of my starters had a nice game. Ella distributed the ball like a point guard should. After a relatively quiet game against Grant, Jessie had another double-double. Arden was the benefit of a lot of good screens that got her open for inside shots. Kiley shot well from the free-throw line (6 of 7). And Morgan was a monster on the boards, coming up with some key rebounds. Very pleased with tonight's effort. A good bounce-back after the Grant game."

Grayslake North fell to 1-6 and 0-2 in the NLCC.

Lake Zurich 73, Waukegan 47: Ella Gilbertson scored 27 points, sinking 9 shots and going 9 of 9 from the foul line, as the host Bears won the North Suburban Conference game.

Libertyville 53, Zion-Benton 34: Junior guard Marianna Morrissey scored a career-high 20 points, Lauren Huber added 12, and the host Wildcats won in North Suburban Conference action.

Huber and Abigail Frea (8 points) each sank two 3-pointers for Libertyville (4-3, 1-1).

"We had incredible contributions from a variety of players," Wildcats coach Greg Pedersen said. "It was great to see our team make the extra pass and play team defense."

Grant 52, Round Lake 30: The host Bulldogs received 12 points apiece from MaCalyn Flores, Cora Hughs and Jazzlyn Linbo in improving to 4-3 and 2-0 in the Northern Lake County Conference.
