Girls volleyball: Hersey, Fremd clinch ties for division

The Hersey and Fremd girls volleyball teams clinched at least a tie for championships in their respective Mid-Suburban League divisions on Thursday night.

The visiting Huskies (19-3, 8-0) did it with a 25-8, 25-10 win over Elk Grove (3-23, 0-8) while visiting Fremd (20-2, 8-0) took a 25-12, 25-18 win over Conant (12-14, 4-4).

Kati Kaburov (10 kills), Nora Zielke (3), Janine Boyan (3), Juliette van den Herik (3) and Kate Lubbe (2) led the Hersey attack set by Kaiya Eshoo (20 assists). Boyan also had 3 blocks.

Other leaders for the Huskies were Maddie Mullin (8 digs), Olivia Mellen (5 aces), Sydney Pape (1 ace), Ellie Muglia (1 ace), Kayla Kamp (1 ace) and Allie Korba (2 assists).

Fremd won its 20th straight match as Rylen Reid (12 kills), Breslen Reid (8 kills, 6 digs, 4 aces) and Claudia Wala (3 kills, 1 block) led the attack.

Rian Baker (13 assists, 2 aces) and Lydia Vander Ark (9 assists) set the offense.

Palatine d. Hoffman Estates: The visiting Pirates (14-7, 6-2) posted a 25-17, 25-9 MSL West win as Emily Campe (8 kills, 3 aces), Jillian Smith (4) and Sarah Elischer (3) led the attack set by Allison Drake (15 assists, 2 aces).

Karina Szafraniec added 2 aces while Julie Garcia (4 digs) Delaney Dolen (3) and Smith (3) helped lead the back row.

Elischer also had 4 blocks against the Hawks (6-12, 1-7).

Barrington d. Schaumburg: Jessica Horwath (7 kills, 3 digs), Noelle Daehler (3 kills, 2 blocks) and Paris Campbell (2 mills, 2 digs) paced visiting Barrington (11-11, 5-3) to a 25-13, 25-12 triumph.

Amanda Cleary (1 aces, 4 points, 12 digs), Amelia Sigaev (9 assists, 2 digs, 7 point), Arianna Armando (8 digs, 1 aces, 7 points), Felicia Guagliardo (7 points, 11 Assists, 5 digs, 7 kills) and Alyssa Rodda (1 ace, 2 digs) were other key performers for the Fillies.

Buffalo Grove d. Wheeling: Shannon Coglianese (10 kills), and Megan Mitsunaga (4 kills) were top attackers for host Buffalo Grove (10-13, 5-3) in the MSL East win over Wheeling (11-15, 3-5).

Claire Schneider handed out 16 assists with 5 digs while Abby Ferris (4 aces, 5 digs) and Ella McBride chipped in 11 digs.

Prospect d. Rolling Meadows: Host Prospect improved to 15-7 and 6-2 in the MSL East with a 25-20, 25-14 win as senior Grace Cacini put down 11 kills.

Jenna Acosta, Annie Wiley and Ellen Sherwood each added 4 kills while Sarah Skaggs handed out 23 assists.

Mia Faraday netted 10 digs and Wiley had 4 blocks.

College volleyball

North Park JV d. Harper: The North Park JV team posted a 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23 win over the Hawks, who were led Amelia Reiter (14 kills) and Rachel Kandefer (9 kills). Taylor Pfaller collected 36 digs and 18 digs for Harper.
