Girls volleyball: Hersey goes 3-2 in Winnetka

After Glenbrook South knocked Hersey's girls volleyball team out of the championship bracket on Friday night, the Huskies came back on Saturday to finish 3-2 in the New Trier Invite in Winnetka.

The Titans gave the Huskies their first loss of the season 25-20, 25-19 but coach Nancy Lill's veteran squad won twice on Saturday with wins over Maine West (25-23, 25-18) and Deerfield (27-25, 25-13).

A strong Hamilton High (Wis.) also handed the Huskies a 25-20, 27-25 loss in a hard-fought two sets.

Hersey, now 5-2, was led on attack by Kati Kaburov (39 kills, 17 digs), Nora Zielke (20 kills, 8 aces, 34 digs), Juliette Van den herik (17 kills, 4 blocks), and Janine Boyan (14 kills, 7 blocks) and Kaiya Eshoo (10 kills, 8 aces, 5 blocks, 25 digs, 82 assists).

Jacobs Invite: Barrington (2-4) posted wins over Waukesha Catholic (Wis.) 26-24, 20-25, 15-13 and Wheaton North 20-25, 25-9,25-17 as the Fillies went 2-3 in the tourney.

Jessica Horwath (33 kills and Noelle Daehler (26 kills) weer named to the all-tourney team. Other top performers for the Fillies were Amanda Cleary (31 kills, 35 digs), Campball Paris (18 kills), Alyssa Rodda (21 digs), Felicia Guagliardo (41 assists) and Amelia Sigaev (62 assists).

Hoffman Estates Tourney: The host Hawks took second place in their own tourney with a 3-1 record behind champion Lake Forest (4-0). Elk Grove (2-2) was third.

Hoffman Estates defeated Elk Grove (27-26, 25-16), Westminster Christian (25-5, 25-19) and Proviso West (25-16, 25-7).
