Pirates promote Cary-Grove grad Priester for Class A playoff push

Well, that didn't take too long.

Quinn Priester, the Cary-Grove graduate who was the Pittsburgh Pirates' first-round pick this year, is on his way to the West Virginia Black Bears to finish the season.

The Pirates Wednesday night moved him up two levels to Class A after the right-hander posted a 3.03 ERA in 32⅔ innings with the Bradenton Pirates of the Gulf Coast League. In eight games (7 starts) he had a 1.19 WHIP, 37 strikeouts, 10 walks and players were hitting .238 off him in the rookie league.

The Black Bears, tied for first in the Pinckney Division, are in the playoff hunt in the New York Penn-League. They are on a 6-game road trip before returning to Morgantown Aug. 28.

Priester, the 2019 Daily Herald Male Athlete of the Year in the Fox Valley, turns 19 Sept. 15.
