Cougars stun Snappers with 6-run comeback

The Kane County Cougars (72-55, 37-21) erased a six-run deficit in a 9-8 come-from-behind win over the Beloit Snappers (51-75, 24-34) on Wednesday night at Pohlman Field. The Cougars remain two games ahead of Clinton for first place in the Western Division.

The Cougars scored a run in the first inning, but the Snapper ripped off seven straight in the first two innings. Luis Frias surrendered three first inning runs, capped by Nick Osborne's RBI double. In the fourth, Frias didn't record an out before he was yanked from the game. Max Schuemann's two-run double highlighted the four-run frame.

The Cougars chipped away in the third with RBIs from Zack Shannon and Buddy Kennedy. They got a run closer in the fourth on Nick Dalesandro's single to right field. The ball was botched by outfielder Nick Osborne, allowing David Garza to score.

The Cougars trailed 8-4 in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, Keshawn Lynch was hit by a pitch. Tra Holmes proceeded to drive in two with a single to make it a one-run game. Zack Shannon's RBI single to left tied the score. Buddy Kennedy's RBI single pushed the Cougars in front 9-8.

Kai-Wei Lin (4-3) earned the win with a season-high four innings pitched. The righty didn't allow a run. Angello Infante (3-5) suffered the loss, giving up five runs (none earned) in 2.2 innings.

The Cougars continue the three-game series with Beloit on Thursday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:30.
