Chicago White Sox place Jimenez on 10-day injured list

The growing pains continue for Eloy Jimenez.

In Tuesday night's 11-0 loss to the Royals at Kansas City, Jimenez had to leave the game in the first inning with a right elbow injury.

The White Sox's rookie left fielder collided with center fielder Charlie Tilson, who caught a fly ball off the bat of Whit Merrifield.

On Wednesday, the Sox placed Jimenez on the 10-day injured list with a right ulnar nerve contusion.

Jimenez was out for nearly a month in late April and May after suffering a high ankle sprain trying to make a catch at Guaranteed Rate Field.

In 67 games with the Sox this season, Jimenez leads all American League rookies with 17 home runs. He is batting .244 with 39 RBI.

Also on Wednesday, the White Sox purchased the contract of infielder Ryan Goins from Class AAA Charlotte and outrighted relief pitcher Juan Minaya to Charlotte.

Minaya was designated for assignment on Saturday.

Goins, 31, hit .322/.406/.531 with 23 doubles, 10 home runs and 48 RBI in 83 games with Charlotte.

The veteran infielder has appeared in 490 games over parts of six major-league seasons with Toronto (2013-17) and Kansas City (2018).
