Boomers win third in a row

Six different players posted hits, including four from Nick Oddo, as the Schaumburg Boomers won their third in a row by putting the brakes on an eight-game winning streak for the Southern Illinois Miners with a 7-3 victory in the opener of a series on Friday night.

Schaumburg scored three runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Brock Carpenter opened the scoring with an RBI double while Oddo followed with an RBI single and Matt Rose lifted a sacrifice fly. The Boomers were able to chase Southern Illinois starter Nick Stroud from the game in the second. Schaumburg scored in five different innings, adding single runs in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh to log the win while banging out 14 hits.

Aaron Rozek worked five innings and allowed three runs to nab the win, improving to 2-2 on the season. Erik Martinez worked the final four innings to collect his first save as a professional in his return to the bullpen. Oddo finished with four hits, two doubles and two RBIs. Alex Polston added three hits with Quincy Nieporte, Carpenter and Dylan Jones all adding two in the win. Carpenter doubled twice as the Boomers notched four doubles in the decision.
