Scouting report: Cubs vs. New York Mets at Wrigley Field

Pitching matchups: The Cubs' Tyler Chatwood (3-1) vs. Walker Lockett (0-0) at 7:05 p.m. Thursday; Yu Darvish (2-3) vs. Jason Vargas (3-3) at 1:20 p.m. Friday; Jose Quintana (4-6) vs. Zack Wheeler (5-5) at 1:20 p.m. Saturday; Cole Hamels (6-2) vs. Jacob deGrom (4-6) at 1:20 p.m. Sunday

At a glance: This is the first meeting of the season between the clubs. The Cubs were 6-1 against the Mets last season. The series opener will be a battle of emergency starters. Chatwood fills in for Kyle Hendricks (shoulder), and Lockett will come up from the minor leagues to fill in for Noah Syndergaard (hamstring). The Mets have been struggling to reach .500. Their team ERA of 4.64 entering Wednesday was 12th in the National League. Pete Alonso entered the day with a line of .274./.359/.624 with 24 homers 57 RBI. Jeff McNeil was at .333/.404/.470 with 4 homers and 21 RBI. Chatwood made a spot start April 21 and pitched 6 scoreless innings against Arizona. He is 3-2 with a 4.17 ERA lifetime against the Mets.
