Boys tennis: Wheaton Academy wins sectional championship

Wheaton Academy continued its winning ways, advancing singles player Jacob Williams and both doubles teams to next week's Class 1A tournament.

The Warriors on the Wheaton Academy sectional title with 30 points to Glenbard South's 20. St. Francis placed third with 15.

The Raiders were led by singles champion Alex Bergendorf. The senior outlasted Williams 3-6, 6-1, 7-5.

Devin Greeno and Owen Setran won the sectional doubles title 6-4, 6-4 against teammates Tristan Hilson and Graham Shelton. St. Francis' Matt Kazmirak and Danny Vale defeated Glenbard South's Ryan Harrington and Deven Kinch 6-3, 6-1, though both teams advanced to state.

Class 1A Montini sectional:

Timothy Christian placed second behind Nazareth, 24-21. The Trojans advanced freshman Winston Chen to state with his third-place singles finish. Montini's David Batka placed second to advance.

In doubles seniors Jack Rheiner and James Shervheim placed second, while teammates Micah Bosman and Ben Rowell placed fourth, both teams advancing.

Class 2A Naperville Central sectional:

Naperville Central ran away with the team title, scoring 36 points. Neuqua Valley placed second with 20.

Junior David Li defeated sophomore teammate David Wang for the singles championship 6-0, 6-1. Neuqua Valley junior Eddie Neuman placed third

The Redhawks took the top two doubles spots also. Naveen Ramakrishnan and Ammaar Saeed defeated Blake Roegner and Daanyal Saeed. Neuqua Valley's Alex Neuman and Jack Considine defeated teammates Tyler Beck and Christopher Smith for third place.

Class 2A Benet sectional:

Glenbard West won the team title with 18 points. Glenbard East placed second with 10, Benet had 9 and Wheaton North 7.

Glenbard East junior Kevin Kruzel won the singles championship, defeating Glenbard West's Alex Kernagis 6-3, 6-0. Wheaton North senior Kevin Li was third, and Wheaton Warrenville South's Phasu Sirinit was fourth.

Glenbard West won the doubles championship behind seniors Griffin Foster and Christo Maltby. Naperville North's Preston Chao and Tarun Vellunki took second. Third place went to Benet's Andrew Donovan and Danny McGuigan, with Downers Grove South's Matt Garcia and Tanuj Singh advancing in fourth place.
