Softball: Libertyville clinches NSC title
Charlotte Lynch hit a solo homer, Amanda Page went the distance in the circle, and Libertyville clinched the North Suburban Conference championship Tuesday with a 3-1 win over Zion-Benton.
Libertyville 3 (20-7, 13-1) also got a single and an RBI from Maggie Evers. Page struck out four and allowed 5 hits. Lynch was 2-for-2.
Grayslake Central 6, Antioch 3: Ashlynn Coleman hit a 3-run homer, Avery Nims added a solo shot, and the Rams avenged an earlier-season loss with a 6-3 win in Northern Lake County Conference action Tuesday.
Nims and Madeline Peterson each had 2 hits for Grayslake Central (20-6, 9-2), and Grace Bradley allowed 1 earned run in her complete-game performance.
Antioch was led offensively by Ashlyn Sundell (2-for-4), Gabby Debevec (2-for-4), Avery Malicki (2-for-3), Hailey Webb (2-for-3) and Piper Foote (double, 2 RBI).
Grayslake North 6, Fremd 5: The Knights improved to 23-9 with their 11th win in a row, as Alyssa Carr (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Ashton Moore (2-for-4), Caitlin Barenbaum (2 RBI), Meghan Delahunty, Scout Kram (2 RBI), Grace Brown and Jess Pozezinski all had hits in the nonconference game.
It was the first time this season the Knights, who have 125 extra-base hits on the season, did not record one. Kram earned the win in the circle, going 7 innings, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks. Fremd got the tying run to third with one out, but Kram got a looking strikeout and a 6-3 groundout to end the game.
Warren 8, Mundelein 0: Caitlyn Britton hit her 17th home run of the season and earned the win for the Blue Devils in the North Suburban Conference game.
Lake Zurich 4, Waukegan 1: Haley Gajewski was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Stephanie Keefe went the distance in the circle for the Bears in the North Suburban Conference game.
Lake Zurich (16-10, 10-4) got 2 hits apiece from Megan Ginn and Julia Zaucha (double). Maura Ginn had a triple.
