Softball: Haddon hits 'slam' as Libertyville wins

Aliya Haddon hit a grand slam, doubled and drove in 5 runs, and Libertyville beat visiting Grant 14-1 in nonconference softball action Saturday.

Maggie Evers also homered and doubled, knocking 3 runs. Haddon, Evers and winning pitcher Amanda Page all finished 2-for-3. Ella Zombolo was 2-for-2.

Grayslake North 14, Vernon Hills 5: Grace Brown saw 2 pitches on the day and made it count for the visiting Knights, hitting her 10th home run of the year and 45th of her career on an 0-1 count. She was intentionally walked in her next 4 plate appearances.

Brown has homered in each of the last 3 games. Faith Standerski (4-for-5, triple, 2 doubles, 4 RBI) led the way for Grayslake North (21-9). Caitlin Barenbaum (3-for-5, 2 doubles, 2 RBI), Meghan Delahunty (2-for-5, RBI), Nicole Hughes (2-for-5, RBI), and Shannon Hill (1-for-2) also had hits for the Knights. Alyssa Carr collected an RBI on a bases-loaded walk after a 9-pitch at-bat.

Mackenzie Mahler (3-for-4, 3 RBI) and Brooke Pieper (2-for-4, RBI) both homered for Vernon Hills (15-12). Quin Yuter, Caeli Kinsella (double), Ashley Budziak, Jess Lea and Madison Johnson all had hits for the Cougars.

Vernon Hills 5, Glenbrook South 1: In their first game of the day, the Cougars got 2-for-3 efforts from Jordyn Smith (3 stolen bases), Madison Johnson (double) and Lauren Ellis (RBI). Delaney Bowen hit a solo homer and stole 2 bases. Johnson pitched all 7 innings, allowing 5 hits, striking out seven and walking one.

Grayslake Central 3, Shepard 1: At Barrington, the Rams received 2 hits apiece from Kennedy Stoffel (RBI), Elisa Koshy (triple, 2 RBI) and Madeline Peterson. Corinne Heidloff pitched a complete game, striking out six and walking one.

Friday's results

Wauconda 7, Lakes 6: The Bulldogs scored twice in the top of the sixth to win the Northern Lake County Conference game.

Wauconda (4-14, 3-7) received big offensive games from Angelica Cho (2-for-4, double, 3 RBI), Calli Janik (2-for-3, double), Taylor Koehler (1-for-4, double, 3 RBI), Julia Fohlmeister (2-for-4), Reese Pozen (2-for-2, double, RBI) and Hannah Miller (double). Kayla Serio had 8 strikeouts in 7 innings in the circle.

Lakes received 2 hits apiece from Grace Goodrich, Haley Ovaska (double) and Grace Dunsworth (double, 2 RBI).

Antioch 11, Loyola 3: Megan Lawrence was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, and Jeri Bonaguidi pitched 6⅔ innings for the win in the nonconference game.

Antioch (23-4-1) also got contributions from Gabby Debevec (2-for-5, 3 RBI), Piper Foote (2-for-5, double, RBI), Abby Pyburn (2-for-4, double, 2 RBI) and Hailey Webb (1-for-4, 2 RBI).

Warren 7, Grant 1: Caityln Britton was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, Kayla Nommensen had a homer, double and 2 RBI, and the Blue Devils won in nonconference action.

Carissa Topolinski had a single and 3 RBI for Warren, and Ashlyn Kitter was 2-for-2 with a double.

Grayslake Central loses twice: At Barrington, the Rams lost to Pontiac 4-0 and Manteno 7-4 in a pair of 5-inning games.

Kennedy Stoffel hit a solo home run against Manteno, and Grace Bradley was 3-for-3 with a double.
