Baseball: St. Viator blanks Hersey

Up 4-0 through two innings, St. Viator held on to keep Hersey scoreless and record a 4-0 baseball win in the battle of Arlington Heights Saturday.

Pitcher Jack Mahoney rolled up 5 strikeouts over six innings pitched. He also helped his cause at the plate with 2 hits.

Michael Pruk added 2 hits for the Lions and Owen Hickey drove in 2 runs.

Elk Grove 3, Meadows 1: Elk Grove scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Winning pitcher Joey Gaskill had 2 strikeouts over four innings but he also drove in 2 runs for the Grens, who improved to 15-9.

Barrington 6, Lake Forest 5: Barrington improved to 25-6 on the season with 9 hits in the game. The second inning was key for the Broncos as they scored 5 runs in that inning alone. Jon Gardner and Johnny Podlesnik each had 2 hits. Winning pitcher Nate Holler finished with 5 strikeouts.

Christian Liberty 14, Westminster 4: Ethan Oskroba had 3 hits, including a triple and a double. Breckin Aiello and David Law added 2 hits while winning pitcher Titus Bennett had 7 strikeouts over five innings.

Glenbrook North 10, Maine South 1: A 5-run second inning keyed the win for Glenbrook North. Maine South was plagued by 5 errors. Connor Leyden had 2 hits, including a double for the Hawks, who dropped to 18-12 on the season.

Niles west 6, Maine West 3: Jacob Cabral drove in 2 runs with a double for Maine West (12-13-1). David Roscoe added 2 hits for the Warriors.

Mundelein 9, Fremd 2: Fremd dropped to 17-11 on the season with 5 errors against Mundelein. Tom Cermak had a home run for Fremd while Nick Varon added 2 hits.

Warren 6, Wheeling 0: Warren outhit Wheeling 10-5 to get the win. Warren pitcher Dru Jasnoch moved to 8-1 on the mound.
