Boys volleyball: Mundelein outlasts Libertyville in 3 sets

Marc Rey had 8 kills and 6 blocks, and Mundelein outlasted visiting Libertyville 26-24, 21-25, 25-19 in North Suburban Conference boys volleyball action Wednesday night.

Eric Morales and Andrew Gibbons each had 5 kills for the Mustangs (12-16, 3-2), and Tyler Vander Ploeg added four. Talon Clausen and Ty Brua had 13 and 10 assists, respectively.

Stevenson d. Waukegan: Gavin Meng had 10 kills, Justin Ross added eight, and the host Patriots remained undefeated in the North Suburban Conference with the 26-24, 25-17.

Stevenson (19-5, 5-0) also received 4 kills apiece from Wally Wormser and Daniel Prindiville. Samuel Epstein added 17 digs, and Will Sorenson dished out 25 assists. Andrei Varanic contributed 3 kills.

Vernon Hills d. Highland Park: Krys Han had 7 kills, and the host Cougars won 25-14, 22-25, 25-21 to improve to 11-10 and 2-4 in the Central Suburban League North Division.

Vernon Hills received 5 kills apiece from Jack McDonald (3 blocks) and Joey Reyes. Greg Tow and Josh Ludolph had 4 kills each, while Cedric Bennett and Sammy Adkisson served 2 aces apiece. Adkisson also had a team-best 15 digs. Erik Giezycki was 58-of-60 setting with 26 assists.

"We had a lot of success the first set, but we need to learn to keep the energy up, keep the pressure on the opponent," Vernon Hills coach Chris Curry said. "Highland Park made some nice adjustments, blocked us much better after the first set, and we struggled offensively. But the boys kept their composure, something we didn't do earlier in the season."
