Baseball: Libertyville's Lockwood beats New Trier

Sophomore right-hander Connor Lockwood pitched a complete-game 5-hitter with 8 strikeouts and just 2 walks, and Libertyville beat visiting New Trier 7-2 in a nonconference baseball game Friday.

Andrew Kim hit a 3-run homer for the Wildcats. David Robertson and Dylan Drumke were both 2-for-3 with a double, and Derek Calamari had a double as well.

Stevenson 7, St. Viator 2: At Benedictine University under the lights, Isaiah Hart hit a solo home run and finished 3-for-3, and the Patriots scored 5 runs in the top of the seventh to win the nonconference game.

Stevenson (14-6) got doubles from Nick Brueckert and Zach Taylor. Michael D'Angelo and Ryan McElhinny were both 2-for-3 with an RBI. Hayden Brotz pitched 4 innings, allowing 2 runs. Jacob Rosenkranz threw the final 3 and earned the win. Each Stevenson pitcher struck out four.

Grayslake Central 4, Wauconda 2: The host Rams rallied from a 2-0 deficit by plating 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of the Northern Lake County Conference game.

Grayslake Central (15-4, 7-2) had 6 consecutive hits in the inning. Following singles by Marcus Maristella and Coby Moe, Tony Crews singled to make the score 2-1. Designated hitter Andrew Gatchell followed with a single to load the bases, and then junior catcher Daniel Rogers doubled to right field, scoring Moe and Crews. Nate Twardock followed with a single to drive home Gatchell with the fourth run of the inning.

The Rams stretched out 12 hits with Maristella, Moe, Gatchell and Rogers having two apiece. Daniel Guckenberger tossed the final 1⅔ innings to earn the win, allowing 2 hits and striking out two. Grayslake Central starter Eric Sturm allowed 1 earned run over 5⅓ innings, striking out five and allowing 3 hits.

Wauconda (8-10, 4-6) got a double from Riley Kirk. Marcus Keller was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Camden Janik went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Lake Zurich 11, Highland Park 6: Tyler Snep was 3-for-3 with a home run, walk, 4 runs scored and 2 RBI, and the host Bears earned the nonconference win.

Anthony Mangano was 2-for-2 with 2 walks, 4 runs and an RBI for Lake Zurich (13-6), and Sam Holtz finished 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI. Jack Pfeifer went 2-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI. Michael Gallus pitched 2 innings for the win, and Jack Moses got the final five outs (3 strikeouts) to notch the save.

Vernon Hills 9, Glenbrook North 8: The Cougars pulled out the Central Suburban League game, which had been suspended due to darkness.

Vernon Hills (11-8, 3-4) had suffered an emotional loss on Tuesday, as Glenbrook North rallied for 5 runs in the bottom of the seventh.

The Cougars were challenged to respond as a team, and their response was the most balanced offensive attack of the year, as 9 of the 10 starters had hits.

Michael Moore earned the win. Alex Yu pitched 2 innings of quality relief.

Grant 5, Johnsburg 4: The Bulldogs got the walk-off win in the nonconference game thanks to 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Val Cerna (double, 2 RBI) and Jimmy Taylor (RBI) were both 2-for-4 for Grant (16-4). Mikal Ashley earned his first win, striking out five and allowing no hits in 1⅔ innings.

Antioch 13, Grayslake North 1: Logan Delgado was 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI, Sawyer Phillips allowed 1 run over 5⅔ innings, and the visiting Sequoits won in Northern Lake County Conference action.

Antioch's other contributors offensively included Sean Weiser (2-for-4, double, RBI), Ethan Andrews (2-for-4, RBI) and Tylr Skutnik (1-for-4, 2 RBI).

For Grayslake North (8-11-1), Jason Donohue was 1-for-2 with 2 walks and a run scored.

Carmel 8, Benet 3: Lukas Galdoni pitched 6⅔ innings for the win, striking out seven and not walking a batter in the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.

Carmel (11-3, 6-2) was led offensively by Drew Wiegman (3-for-3, 2 runs), Dylan Paquette (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Jake Adams (3-for-5, run) and Galdoni (2-for-4). Kyle Grawe and Sean Lynch doubled.
