Girls soccer: Long scores twice as Lake Zurich edges Libertyville

Morgan Long scored twice, and Lake Zurich scored three times in the second half to edge host Libertyville 3-2 in North Suburban Conference girls soccer action Thursday night.

Lake Zurich (9-5-1) trailed 2-0 at halftime.

Maddy Piggott also scored for the Bears, while Cassidy Johnston had 2 assists. Abby Willock also had an assist.

Libertyville got goals from Lauren Huber and Brynn Miller.

Round Lake 2, Lakes 1: Down 1-0 at halftime, the Panthers rallied for the Northern Lake County Conference win, converting penalty kicks by Dana Devera and Alexandria Wawrzyniak.

Round Lake goalkeeper Giselle Raygoza made 10 saves.

Noelia Padilla scored for Lakes (3-8-2, 2-2-1) assisted by Simone Lippmann 15 minutes into the game. Eagles keeper Taylor Primack made 10 saves.

"A well-played game by both teams that went end to end with both goalkeepers making great saves," Lakes coach Kevin Kullby said. "Congrats to Round Lake for getting two deserved penalty kicks and converting them to prevail. Though I thought my team played some very good soccer on both ends, we failed to convert on many chances despite defending very well throughout the game."

Stevenson 1, Mundelein 0: Gracie Wingfield scored in the second half after being set up by Kalyssa VanZanten, as the visiting Patriots won the North Suburban Conference match.

Jenny Staten earned her 11th shutout by making 9 saves for Stevenson (13-1-2, 4-0).

"Coach (Heather) Crawford has those girls organized and working hard, and it made it tough for us to generate any rhythm," Stevenson coach PepeJon Chavez said.

Chavez added it was an "amazing 70-yard counter attack" by VanZanten that led to Wingfield's winning strike.

Mundelein (5-6, 1-2) got 5 saves from goalkeeper Lia Perrelli.

Wauconda 4, Grayslake Central 1: The visiting Bulldogs scored three times in the second half to secure the Northern Lake County Conference win.

Savannah Johnson had 2 goals and an assist for Wauconda (10-2-1, 3-0). Abigail McHugh (penalty kick) and Megan Sinnott also scored. Morgan Lung contributed 2 assists, and Bulldogs keeper Mackenzie Arden made 6 saves.

"The score doesn't describe how close a game this was," Wauconda coach Beau Shogren said. "Grayslake put a lot of pressure on us at times, and this game really went back and forth in terms of momentum. It was a great game for us to learn from and improve."

Grace Herrmann scored off an assist from Maura Fitzgerald for Grayslake Central (6-7,1-3).

Warren 7, Rockford Lutheran 0: As part of the Glenbrook Cup, Elizabeth Weinberg had 3 goals and 3 assists, and Courtney Chomko added a pair of goals for the Blue Devils.

Cate Cullison and Morgan Liebau also scored for Warren (7-5-2). Sarah Kreppein had 2 assists and Melissa Cote had one as well. Warren goalkeepers Alana Turner and Sarah Barbosa combined for the clean sheet.

Grant 7, North Chicago 0: Nicole Stigler scored 4 goals for the Bulldogs in the Northern Lake County Conference match.
