Baseball: Green's gem lifts Lake Zurich

Jake Green pitched 6⅔ scoreless innings, striking out five and allowing 5 hits, and Lake Zurich's baseball team shut out visiting Libertyville 3-0 in North Suburban Conference action Tuesday.

Anthony Mangano and Tyler Snep were both 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Bears (12-6, 5-3), who avenged Monday's loss. Michael Gallus got the final out.

Derek Calamari was 2-for-3 for Libertyville (11-10, 4-4).

Warren 15, Zion-Benton 1: Nate Rentas hit a 3-run homer (his sixth of the season), singled and drove in 5 runs, as the host Blue Devils won the North Suburban Conference game in five innings.

Rentas and Casey Cobe (RBI) were both 2-for-3 for Warren (19-2, 7-0), which ran its winning streak to 16 games. Mikey Kocen and Ryan Scanlon doubled for the Blue Devils, and Collin Schwarz was 1-for-1 with 2 RBI. Justin Vaughan (3-0) pitched 4 innings, striking out five for the win.

Grayslake Central 8, Wauconda 2: The host Rams scored in every inning in the Northern Lake County Conference game.

After scoring 3 runs in the first inning, Grayslake Central tallied single runs in innings two through six, scattering 12 hits throughout the game.

Nic Presutti and Coby Moe each had a pair of hits and 2 RBI to lead the attack, while Joey Webster and Daniel Guckenberger also had a pair of singles and Nathan Casper added a double.

The run support was more than enough for Rams starter Ethan Peterson, who carried a perfect game through two outs in the fourth and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits over 5 innings while striking out three and walking two. Sean Gniadek tossed 2 scoreless innings for the Rams (14-3, 6-1).

Wauconda got doubles from Drew Coe (2 RBI) and Riley Kirk.

Lakes 16, Round Lake 4: Jason Volpe went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, Carson Cobb was 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, and the host Eagles won big in Northern Lake County Conference action.

Alex Huissen had a double and an RBI for Lakes, and Ethan Clark singled and drove in a par of runs.

Round Lake's Wyatt Hill was 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Glenbrook North 9, Vernon Hills 8: Caleb Thomson was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Brendan Holloway went 3-for-5 for the Cougars in their Central Suburban League loss.

Sam Polisky added a pair of hits for Vernon Hills, and Quinn Geren had a triple and an RBI.
