Softball: Trausch homers twice in Elk Grove's win

AJ Traush belted 2 home runs and Brooke Baldassarre had one for Elk Grove's softball team which posted an 8-1 Mid-Suburban East triumph in 5⅔ rain-shortened innings over visiting Prospect on Monday.

Baldassarre also had a pair of doubles to end up 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs as EG improved to 15-2 and 3-1 in the East. Katia Pendowski went 2-for-2 and Grace Engwall doubled for the Grens.

EG junior Lauren Clausen (8-1) went 5⅔ innings for the win, striking out seven while tossing a 3-hitter.

Prospect (5-8, 2-3) was led on offense by Kathryn Keehn (2-for-3, 2B). Cassie Cunniff and Emalee Depa also had hits for the Knights.

Rolling Meadows 10, Buffalo Grove 0 (5 inn): Elise Kowalski (5-6) earned the win with 5 strikeouts for host Rolling Meadows (10-6, 3-3) which was led on offense by Sam Allen (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Kendra Herring (1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI), Kelsey Campbell (2-for-3, 2 2B, RBI), Sam Elenz (2B) and Emily Schmidt (1-for-1 RBI), who is 5-for-6 in her last two games. Angelina Craig, Hannah Young and Kimberly Stuercke each went 1-for-2 for the Bison (4-6, 1-3).

Hersey 13, Wheeling 3 (5 inn): Makayla Tsagalis (4-for-4), Brianna Luciano (3-for-4, 3B, 2B, 8 RBI), Stephanie Gazda (3-for-3 HR), Natalia Kubsik (2-for-3, 2B) and Morgan Breden (2-for-3, 2B) led the host Huskies (8-4, 2-3 MSL East). Senior Sarah Bailitz (5-2) earned the win, striking out nine while tossing a 5-hitter. Danni Moser (2-for-2) and Peyton LaCaeyse each homered for Wheeling (2-9, 0-6).

Fremd 6, Schaumburg 0 (6 inn): Elaina Kraus (2-for-2, 2 RBI) belted a home run and a double as host Fremd (8-4, 4-1) won the rain shortened MSL West contest behind senior Hailey Hazlett (4-3), who threw a 5-hitter with 2 strikeouts against the Saxons (7-12, 3-4). Other multiple hitters for the Vikings were Kalyn McCarthy (2-for-4, 2 runs), Sophia Crescio (2-for-3) and Reagan Goluch (2-for-3). Cali DiVito added a double for Fremd.

Conant, Hoffman (suspended): Conant was leading Hoffman Estates 5-1 in the bottom of the third inning when the game was suspended due to weather. It will resume on Thursday at Hoffman Estates.

Whitney Young 4, Leyden 1 (6 inn): Host Leyden (13-3) stranded eight runners in a rain-shortened nonconference game with the Dolphins. Kailey Kirkwood (2-fo-r3, 2B) and Breanne Deutscher (2B) led the Eagles offense while pitcher Emma Bertsche struck out four while throwing a 7-hitter in 6⅓ innings.
