Softball: Chialdikas' 4 homers, 11 RBI lead Lake Zurich in sweep

Elizabeth Chialdikas had 4 home runs and 11 RBI, leading Lake Zurich to a sweep of visiting Vernon Hills in a nonconference softball doubleheader Saturday.

After homering and driving in a pair of runs in an 8-7, walk-off win in Game 1, Chialdikas went 4-for-6 with 3 homers, including a grand slam, and 9 RBI, as the Bears outslugged the Cougars 21-16. She also scored four times.

Julia Zauch also had a big game for Lake Zurich in Game 2, going 4-for-5 with a homer, double, 5 runs scored and 3 RBI. Stephanie Keefe was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Maura Ginn went 2-for-5 with a double and 2 RBI, and Kennedy Williams was 2-for-5 with 5 runs scored.

Delaney Bowen was 3-for-5 with a triple, double and 2 RBI for Vernon Hills. The Cougars also got contributions offensively from Quin Yuter (2-for-5, double, 3 RBI), Mackenzie Mahler (2-for-4, RBI), Brooke Pieper (2-for-4, RBI), Ashley Budziak (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and Rebecca Kleft (triple).

In Game 1, Lake Zurich got 2 hits apiece from Chialdikas, Zauch an Haley Gajewski (2 doubles, RBI). Madison Johnson was 3-for-3 with a double and 4 RBI for Vernon Hills. Yuter, Mahler and Pieper also had doubles.

Carmel wins Wisconsin tournament: The Corsairs picked up three more wins Saturday, winning the Westosha Central/Wilmot Union tournament and stretching its winning streak to eight.

Carmel (11-5) edged Westosha Central 5-4, as Sydney Schuda allowed 6 hits and struck out four in her 7 innings in the circle. Allison Schiltz was 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored.

Carmel defeated Tremper 7-2 behind Marla Walinski's complete-game performance. She allowed 5 hits and 1 earned run, while also going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI at the plate. Jordan Swiatkowski was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI, and Schiltz finished 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Emy Krysa was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Schuda went the distance again, as the Corsairs edged Burlington 1-0. She had 8 strikeouts, walked one and gave up 8 hits. Carmel scored the game's only run in the second. Kyla Rapplean led off with a walk, Julia Shrofe sacrifice-bunted Rapplean to second base, and Schiltz delivered an RBI single.

Antioch wins Byron tournament: The Sequoits' 3 wins hiked their record to 16-1-1.

Antioch started the day by beating Lisle 8-1 in five innings, as Piper Foote and Megan Lawrwence both had 2 hits, including a triple, and an RBI. Rilee Schreiner had a homer and 2 RBI, and Jeri Bonaguidi struck out eight in 4 innings.

The Sequoits then defeated Rockford Boylan 7-1 in five innings, getting a 3-for-3 performance from Lawrence, who drove in a pair of runs. Foote was 2-for-3 with a double, Schreiner doubled and knocked in three, and Hailey Webb doubled. Bonaguidi went the distance, allowing 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and no walks.

Gabby Debevec went 3-for-4 with a double and stolen base, as the Sequoits finished by besting Geno-Kingston 9-3. Schreiner was 3-for-3 with a homer, double and 3 RBI. Foote, Lawrence and Webbb each had 2 hits and an RBI. Bonaguidi pitched 3 innings for the win.

Lakes splits with Schaumburg: Camryn Jones and Ally Dietz both went 4-for-5 for Lakes in its 13-4 win in Game 1 of a nonconference doubleheader.

Schaumburg won the second game 14-4.

In the opener Jones doubled twice, while Dietz had a double, 4 runs scored and 2 RBI. Annie Willis was 3-for-5 with an RBI for the Eagles, Haley Ovaska finished 2-for-5 with a double and 3 RBI, and Cierra Fleming was 3-for-4 with 4 RBI. Lakes' 21-hit attack also included a double by Kelsey Ulrich.

Ovaska and Emilie Cain hit home runs in Game 2 for Lakes. Ovaska and Dietz (double) were both 2-for-3.

Fremd 19, Libertyville 11: Maggie Evers homered and drove in 3 runs for the host Wildcats in their loss.

Libertyville's other offensive contributors included Aliya Haddon (2-for-4, double, 2 RBI), Emma Fields (2-for-4, double, RBI), Ella Zombolo (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Lexi Hill (double).
